SV Capital provides access to asset-backed investment opportunities in South African commercial agriculture. Our current strategy focuses on commercial cattle, with capital deployed against identifiable livestock within an established feedlot operation. Each allocation is structured around a defined transaction, with the herd serving as collateral and an offtake arrangement contracted in advance. Our approach brings together tangible underlying assets, an established operating partner and a defined investment structure.
We have been active in the cattle investment market for nine years, since our first cattle pool. Our focus is on disciplined capital deployment, considered transaction structuring and the commercial activity that underpins each investment opportunity.
Allocations start at R1 000 000. We engage directly with prospective investors to understand their objectives, investment horizon and allocation requirements before determining whether an opportunity is appropriate.
Each allocation follows a defined transaction structure, connecting capital to commercial livestock, an established feedlot operation and an offtake. From deployment to repayment, the process is built around identifiable assets and a defined commercial purpose.
Capital is allocated to acquire weaner cattle for a commercial feedlot operation. The investment is linked to identifiable livestock managed by an established operating partner, rather than exposure solely to movements in cattle prices.
The herd serves as collateral for the investment, subject to the applicable security agreements. Livestock is insured against specified risks — disease, theft and natural hazards. The operating partner is responsible for veterinary care and biosecurity while the animals are in its custody.
An offtake agreement is established before the investment pool opens, providing a defined route for the cattle to be sold. The arrangement establishes the intended buyer and sale mechanism, although actual realisation and repayment remain subject to the terms of the agreements and the performance of the relevant counterparties.
The minimum investment term is 18 months. During this period, the underlying cattle may pass through several production cycles, each contributing to the commercial activity supporting the transaction. At the end of the agreed term, repayment is determined by the performance of the relevant investment pool. Capital is at risk, and any target return is not guaranteed.
A defined process from initial engagement to settlement. We work with private investors, families and their advisers to structure capital allocations around agreed investment objectives, time horizons and reporting requirements.
Every engagement begins with a conversation about your investment objectives, capital allocation, investment horizon and reporting requirements. We assess whether the opportunity and its structure align with your requirements before proceeding.
Each allocation is governed by a written agreement setting out the parties, investment structure, agreed term, applicable return methodology and relevant contractual obligations. Documentation is completed before capital is deployed.
Capital is allocated to a designated pool linked to an underlying cattle transaction. Each pool has its own defined structure and investment terms, with performance determined by the underlying transaction rather than a projected return alone.
Investors receive reporting on their respective allocations, providing visibility into the pool’s performance and investment position. Reporting is designed to distinguish actual performance from projections and explain the basis of reported figures.
At the end of the agreed term, the pool is settled and the investment outcome is determined by its realised performance, in accordance with the governing agreement. Capital and returns are subject to investment risk, and no return is guaranteed.
A South African alternative investment platform focused on structured, asset-backed opportunities in the real economy.
SV Capital structures investment opportunities backed by productive real assets, beginning with commercial agriculture. We work with institutional investors, family offices and capital partners to develop investment solutions aligned with their mandates, return objectives and risk parameters.
Our approach combines defined transaction structures, established operating partnerships and disciplined due diligence, with a focus on transparency, accountability and investment performance.
SmartVest Financial Services (Pty) Ltd is an authorised financial services provider, FSP 52449, regulated by the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA). All investments are administered by SmartVest Financial Services. SV Capital is appointed as the alternative fund manager to structure investment opportunities. Each investment arrangement is subject to appropriate onboarding, due diligence and contractual documentation, with roles and responsibilities established before capital is deployed.
Every investor completes the applicable FICA, anti-money laundering and know-your-client requirements before an allocation proceeds. Our onboarding process is designed to establish the necessary information and documentation, irrespective of allocation size. We engage with investors to understand their requirements and ensure that the relevant investment terms, documentation and reporting arrangements are addressed before capital is deployed.
Beefcor is SV Capital’s operating partner in its cattle transactions. The partnership supports the feeding and management of the underlying livestock, with offtake arrangements established before funds are deployed. Counterparties and transactions are subject to due diligence before deployment. This approach is intended to establish operational accountability and a defined commercial framework for each transaction.
SV Capital’s track record reflects nine years of activity in commercial cattle investing, supporting productive assets and the businesses operating around them. Since the first herd of cattle, the business has deployed more than R200 million in capital, repaid over R30 million in returns to investors and supported more than 700 jobs across the businesses it finances. These figures reflect cumulative activity across the business, rather than the performance of any individual investment pool. Historical results are not indicative of future performance, and capital remains at risk.
Our commercial cattle structure supports livestock production and the businesses involved in bringing cattle to market. By participating in defined livestock transactions, SV Capital helps support commercial agricultural activity, operating businesses and employment across the value chain. Our impact is reflected in the scale of capital deployed, the historical returns paid to investors and the employment supported across the businesses we partner with.

No. Capital is at risk, and asset-backed investment does not guarantee repayment. The underlying livestock provides security for the arrangement, but investors may still experience losses. We encourage investors to understand the security structure, counterparty arrangements and associated risks before committing capital.
The minimum allocation is R1 000 000. We engage directly with prospective investors to understand their investment objectives, preferred time horizon and reporting requirements. Terms are agreed and documented before capital is deployed.
The minimum investment term is 18 months. Capital is committed for the agreed term, subject to the applicable contractual provisions. The underlying cattle cycle is shorter than the investment term, allowing multiple operating cycles during the allocation period.
The lending structure is supported by the underlying livestock, which serves as security for the relevant transactions. The cattle are insured against specified risks, subject to the applicable policy terms and exclusions. Security arrangements and associated risks should be reviewed in the investment documentation before capital is committed.
SmartVest Financial Services (Pty) Ltd is an authorised financial services provider, FSP 52449, and administers the funds invested. SV Capital is appointed as the alternative fund manager and oversees the fund management and operations of the relevant investment pools under the applicable arrangements. The roles and responsibilities of the parties are documented in the investment agreement.
Any rate quoted before an investment pool concludes is a target based on the anticipated performance of the underlying transactions, not a guaranteed return. Actual returns depend on the results achieved by the relevant pool and the applicable contractual arrangements.
Investors receive reporting for their relevant investment pool, setting out their position and the performance achieved during the reporting period. Reporting arrangements and frequency are discussed and agreed as part of the investment process.
Repayment follows the agreed investment terms and the performance of the underlying transactions. The cattle are sold under pre-arranged offtake agreements, with proceeds applied in accordance with the relevant contractual arrangements. Actual outcomes depend on the performance of the investment pool, and repayment is not guaranteed.
